Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipSometimes when you're out in the woods, it's really fun to look at something up close, like this big log I found right along the edge of the trail.
If you look closely, you can see Moss and you can see, I don't know, this really cool orange fungus.
But as I got looking closer and followed the lug around, I found this.
It appears to be a cocoon of probably a moss kind of tucked here against the underside of the log next spring.
Whatever species of moth this is will probably emerge and mate and lay eggs and start the cycle of life over again.
It's really amazing how much life you can find on a log.
